SYNOPSIS (Summary of source)
So just how do we get electricity from water? Actually, hydroelectric and coal-fired power plants produce electricity in a similar way. In both cases a power source is used to turn a propeller-like piece called a turbine, which then turns a metal shaft in an electric generator, which is the motor that produces electricity. A coal-fired power plant uses steam to turn the turbine blades; whereas a hydroelectric plant uses falling water to turn the turbine. The results are the same.

well the the hydro electric works like a dam which it is one it blocks off the large amount of body water and lets it flow through a smaller part of the dam. and it flows through a machine that creates energy. but it can be harmful to the enviorment because of all the construction. but otherwise it is helpfull for getting energy.

CONCERNS (Problems with the new energy)
Unfortunately, hydroelectricity has its drawbacks. By blocking rivers with massive dams, we have created a number of serious environmental and social problems, including habitat destruction, prevention of fish passage, and displacement of local communities. Still, if it's done right, hydropower can be a sustainable and nonpolluting power source that can help decrease our dependence on fossil fuels and reduce the threat of global warming.

Hydroelectric power comes from the natural flow of water. What hydro electric does is give us electicity and the good thing
about it is that is a renewable resource. For example a dam is a way to use that resource and the turbine keep turning
making energy.

A dam is built to trap water, usually in a valley where there is an existing lake.
Water is allowed to flow through tunnels in the dam, to turn turbines and thus drive generators.
Notice that the dam is much thicker at the bottom than at the top, because the pressure of the water increases with depth.
Hydro-electric power stations can produce a great deal of power very cheaply.

It doesn't harm the envirenment. It is better for us brecause is not making any emissinons.
It is cheaply.
The plant won't have problems of explotions as the fossil fuels plants do.
It just need generatosrs and turbines to make energy.

The problems with the hydro electrics is that if the dam breakes and there is a city or a town by, the water is going to do a big desaster there.
Also the people that were depending on the elecricity from that hydro electric plant are going to run out of energy.
To reconstruct a dam againg is going to cost millions of dollars and if rains hard again it can breake and do the same thing again
